She became the matriarch of a five-generation dynasty spanning 53 descendants across 18 zoos worldwide. Her daughter Mei Mei founded Japan's famous "Hama Family" (浜家族). Son Ke Bi was named by IOC President Samaranch on the 1992 Barcelona Olympics opening day. She survived a 25-hour coma in 1987 and lived to 34 — equivalent to 100 human years.
