View profileDan Dan (旦旦, studbook #434), originally named Shuang Shuang (爽爽), was a female giant panda born on September 16, 1995 at the China Conservation and Research Center for Giant Pandas. She moved to Kobe Oji Zoo in Japan in July 2000, becoming a symbol of hope and recovery after the Great Hanshin Earthquake. Despite reproductive challenges, she brought joy to millions until her death on March 31, 2024 at age 28. She was posthumously appointed a "China-Japan Friendship Envoy."
