Xiao Qiao (Chinese: 小乔, studbook number 848) is a female giant panda born on August 12, 2012 at the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding. She was the first female cub born at the base in 2012.

Her mother is Xiao Ya Tou (小丫头) and her father is Xiong Bin (雄浜, studbook 541). Her brother is Xiao Chuan (小川).

Naming

Named after the legendary beauty of the Three Kingdoms period, Xiao Qiao (小乔) — fitting for a panda described as “fair-skinned and beautiful” (肤白貌美) with large eyes.


The Seven Friends

On June 10, 2014, Xiao Qiao became one of the famous “Seven Friends” (幼年园七小组合) — a cohort of seven cubs at the Chengdu Base that included Ao Li Ao, Miao Miao, Si Yi, Cheng Shuang, Cheng Dui, and Yuan Run. The group was a major attraction for visitors.


Life Journey

  • 2016-03-18: Moved to Luoyang Longtan Grand Canyon Panda House with nephew Si Yi. Participated in the Peony Culture Festival promotions.
  • 2019-03-06: Returned to Chengdu Base
  • 2020-05-28: Moved to Tianjin Yili Ecological Spirit Park with brother Xiao Chuan, arriving via Sichuan Airlines flight 3U8861

In Tianjin

Xiao Qiao lives in a 2,650 m² panda house at Tianjin. She consumes about 100 jin (50 kg) of bamboo daily, flown in from Chengdu every two days. Her diet is supplemented with specially formulated wowotou, apples, and carrots.

Compared to her more excitable brother, Xiao Qiao is described as calm and poised (淡定从容).


Appearance

Described by fans as a “big-eyed beauty” and the “gymnast of the panda world,” Xiao Qiao is known for her fair fur, large eyes, and elegant bearing.
