About Beauval Zoo

Beauval Zoo, located in Saint-Aignan-sur-Cher in the Loir-et-Cher department of France, is one of Europe's most renowned zoological parks and a leading institution in wildlife conservation. Founded in 1980 by Françoise Delord, the zoo has grown from a modest bird park to a world-class conservation facility spanning over 40 hectares and housing more than 35,000 animals from 800 different species. The zoo's giant panda exhibit, inaugurated in 2012, represents one of the most significant international conservation collaborations between China and France. The specially designed habitat features climate-controlled indoor spaces, expansive outdoor enclosures with natural vegetation, and advanced veterinary facilities. The exhibit was carefully constructed to mimic the pandas' natural environment while providing optimal conditions for breeding and research. Beauval Zoo plays a critical role in the European Endangered Species Programme (EEP) for giant pandas and has achieved notable successes in panda conservation, including the historic birth of Yuan Meng, the first panda born in France. The zoo's conservation efforts extend beyond pandas, with active participation in numerous global conservation initiatives and breeding programs for endangered species. With over 1.5 million visitors annually, Beauval Zoo serves as an important educational resource, offering extensive programming about wildlife conservation, habitat preservation, and biodiversity. The zoo's innovative approaches to animal welfare, environmental sustainability, and public engagement have earned it international recognition as a model for modern zoological institutions.
