Fu Lai (Chinese: 福来, studbook number 1014), nicknamed “Lai Mei” (来妹), is a female giant panda born on July 14, 2016 at the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding.
Her mother is Qi Fu (奇福), and she has siblings including Qi Qiao (七巧), Qi Xi (七喜), Fu Shun (福顺, her twin brother), and Pu Pu (噗噗).
She is recognizable by her fluffy蓬松 face and slightly outward-flaring black eye patches (略微外飞的黑眼圈), with a gently upturned mouth that gives her a perpetually cheerful expression.
In January 2018, Fu Lai developed a life-threatening condition:
After the surgery, a 24-hour care team monitored her recovery. She gradually regained her health and appetite. This case contributed to the growing body of knowledge about treating gastrointestinal emergencies in giant pandas.
Fu Lai’s greatest hobbies are walking and eating bamboo (散步和吃竹子). She lives at the Chengdu Base’s Villa No. 2 (二号别墅), enjoying a peaceful life with her fellow pandas.
