Short version

Jia Xin (家欣), adopted name "Hua Bao," is a female giant panda born July 10, 2022 at the Chengdu Research Base's Sun Nursery. Daughter of Jia Yuan — the wild-rescued panda — she is famous for her signature "tree-hanging" poses, earning the title of "most Buddhist panda." Adopted by Bee & Flower (蜂花), her image was turned into a 6-meter sculpture in Chongqing.

Basic Profile

Jia Xin (Chinese: 家欣, adopted name Hua Bao/花宝), is a female giant panda born on July 10, 2022 at the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding (Sun Nursery). Her mother is Jia Yuan (家园, studbook 1119) — the wild-rescued panda who was found near death in a villager’s home in 2017.

She was named in December 2022 as part of the base’s “Class of 2022.”

The Buddhist Panda

Jia Xin has a distinctive black horizontal stripe across her nose and exceptionally dark eye circles. But her real claim to fame is her “tree-hanging” (挂树) habit. She drapes herself over branches in poses of such profound relaxation that fans have dubbed her the “most Buddhist (佛系) panda” — a creature utterly at peace with the universe.

Adoption by Bee & Flower

On September 16, 2023, Bee & Flower (蜂花) — a heritage Shanghai daily chemical brand — announced they had lifelong adopted Jia Xin, renaming her “Hua Bao” (花宝). The news trended on Weibo.

Giant Sculpture

In August 2023, a 6-meter-tall giant panda sculpture based on Jia Xin was installed at Raffles City Chongqing as part of the “一路萌上天·家欣带你游重庆” (All the Way Cute·Jia Xin Takes You to Chongqing) themed event, featuring a panda science exhibition and interactive activities.
