Short version

Qin Yun (Chinese: 秦韵, “Qinling Charm”) is a female giant panda of the Qinling subspecies born on August 17, 2020 at the Qinling Giant Panda Research Center in Shaanxi Province. Her mother is Yong Yong (永永).
Her birth marked a milestone: she is a “third-generation” (子三代) captive-born Qinling panda, meaning her family lineage in captivity spans four generations — a rare achievement for the Qinling subspecies program.
She was named “Qin Yun” (秦韵) through a public naming contest in 2021, meaning “the charm/rhythm of Qinling.”
In May 2023, a video of Qin Yun went viral on Chinese social media. In the clip, she was seen dragging her hind legs as if paralyzed, her face twisted in apparent distress. Viewers were concerned — until, moments later, she jumped up and ran off completely normally.
Keepers confirmed: she was faking. Qin Yun had discovered that pretending to be injured got her extra attention from keepers. She became known as the “戏精小公主” (Drama Queen Princess) .
She is also known for her love of sliding on grass slopes (滑草) and climbing to high points.
Qin Yun now lives at the Foping Panda Conservation and Breeding Research Base in the Qinling Mountains. She has a round face and short snout — classic Qinling subspecies features. In September 2023, she participated in a Taobao livestream debut alongside three other pandas, and her image has appeared in a Hong Kong photography exhibition.
