Short version
Qiang Qiang (强强, studbook #1251), born Qing Chong Yang (庆重阳), is a male giant panda born October 25, 2020 at the Chengdu Research Base. Named after the Double Ninth Festival, he was adopted by the "Study Strong" (学习强国) platform in 2021 and renamed "Qiang Qiang" — becoming the platform's nationwide ambassador alongside his twin sister Guo Guo.
Qiang Qiang (Chinese: 强强, originally Qing Chong Yang/庆重阳, also called Qing Da/庆大), studbook number 1251, is a male giant panda born on October 25, 2020 at the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding. His mother is Qing He (庆贺) and his twin sister is Guo Guo (国国), originally named Qing Zhu Yu (庆茱萸).
He was given the birth name “Qing Chong Yang” (庆重阳) because he was born on the Double Ninth Festival (重阳节), a traditional Chinese holiday.
On February 4, 2021, the “Study Strong” (学习强国) learning platform officially adopted the twin pair. They were renamed “Qiang Qiang” (强强) and “Guo Guo” (国国) — together forming “强国” (Strong Country). The twins serve as “Study Strong Image Ambassadors” for promoting Chinese culture and panda conservation education nationwide.
Qiang Qiang is a member of “Xiao Er Ban” (小二班) — a playful cohort of young pandas including Jin Shuang (金双), Jin Xi (金喜), and Fu Shuang (福双), all cared for by veteran keeper Tan Jintao (谭金淘).
In January 2023, he enjoyed a specially created snow playground at the base, featuring apple and carrot decorations and a snow rabbit for the upcoming Year of the Rabbit.
