Basic Profile
Qing Ci (Chinese: 青糍) was a female giant panda born on June 21, 2022 at the China Conservation and Research Center for Giant Pandas (CCRCGP) Wolong Shenshuping Base. Her mother is Bo Si (博斯, studbook 1408).
Qing Ci was one of twins born to Bo Si. Since her mother took the other twin for wild training, Qing Ci was raised by foster mother Ying Hua (瑛华).
Death
In early March 2024, Qing Ci developed a severe intestinal obstruction. On March 5, CCRCGP veterinarians successfully performed surgery to remove the obstruction. However, during recovery, she developed intestinal intussusception causing a secondary obstruction, requiring emergency surgery on March 17 to remove necrotic intestinal tissue.
Despite 24-hour intensive care from a team of experts, Qing Ci died on March 23, 2024. Her case was the first documented instance of intestinal obstruction complicated by intussusception at CCRCGP.
