Short version
Rui Bao (睿宝), born July 7, 2023 at Everland Resort in South Korea, is the elder twin sister of Hui Bao (辉宝) and the second cub of Ai Bao (爱宝) and Le Bao (乐宝). Named "Wise Treasure" through a public vote with over 500,000 participants, she and her twin made history as the first naturally conceived twin pandas born in Korea. She debuted publicly on January 4, 2024, and began independent life in August 2025.
Rui Bao (Chinese: 睿宝, meaning “Wise Treasure”) is a female giant panda born on July 7, 2023, at Everland Resort in Yongin, South Korea. She holds the global studbook number 1313, making her the older twin (by birth order). Her birth weight was 180 grams — the larger of the twins (Hui Bao was 140g).
Her mother is Ai Bao (爱宝/华妮, studbook 879), her father is Le Bao (乐宝/园欣, studbook 841). She has an older sister Fu Bao (福宝) (born 2020) and a twin younger sister Hui Bao (辉宝).
On October 12, 2023, the twins’ names were announced at a 100-day celebration. “Rui Bao” (睿宝, Wise Treasure) and “Hui Bao” (辉宝, Shining Treasure) were selected from over 500,000 public votes. The name “Rui” symbolizes wisdom and cleverness.
Rui Bao and Hui Bao began public viewing at Everland’s panda house. By this time, both twins weighed over 11 kg and could follow their mother Ai Bao around their enclosure.
A traditional Korean zhua zhou (抓周) ceremony was held. Rui Bao famously grabbed a dumbbell from the five symbolic items (brush, gavel, ball, microphone, dumbbell) — symbolizing health and strength. By this time, the twins each weighed over 30 kg.
The twins celebrated with Chinese Ambassador to South Korea Dai Bing in attendance. Their weight had reached nearly 70 kg. Keepers noted this would be their last birthday with their mother before independence.
On August 13, 2025, after three weeks of training, Rui Bao and Hui Bao separated from their mother and began independent living in an expanded new enclosure.

culture
In 2016, Ai Bao and Le Bao arrived at Everland in South Korea as diplomatic gifts. In 2020, they produced Fu Bao — the first panda born in Korea — and ignited a cultural phenomenon that transformed Korean panda keeping into a national obsession. This article traces how Everland's media strategy, the emotional bond between keeper Kang Cheol-won and Fu Bao, and the Korean public's embrace of 'panda parenting' created the most intense panda fandom outside China.
