Basic Profile
Wen Wen (Chinese: 汶汶, nicknamed Xiao Ling Dang/小铃铛 — “Little Bell”), is a female giant panda born on June 28, 2019 at the China Conservation and Research Center for Giant Pandas (CCRCGP) Wolong Shenshuping Base. Her mother is A Ling (阿灵).
On November 1, 2019, she was officially named “Wen Wen” (汶汶) — the character “汶” referencing Wenchuan County, the site of the devastating 2008 earthquake. The naming ceremony was attended by CCRCGP Deputy Director Zhang Haiqing, who presented the naming certificate to Wenchuan County.
Wenchuan’s Tourism Ambassador
Wen Wen serves as the “Cutest Image Ambassador” for Wenchuan County’s tourism. Her image and costumed mascot are used in cultural events and promotional campaigns, including the 2022 “Wenchuan Carefree Light Year” sharing event, where a Wen Wen mascot made a public appearance.
