Short version
Xing Yu (星语, studbook #914) is a female giant panda born June 30, 2014 at Chengdu Base — the first cub of the 2014 class to learn to walk. Twin of Xing Yuan, daughter of Ya Xing. Nicknamed "Big Sister" (大姐大) for her bold, assertive personality — she was the class leader. Known for her beauty mark on the right side of her nose and her habit of staring intensely (瞪眼). She underwent wild training at Dujiangyan Panda Valley (2015-2017) and moved to Quanzhou in 2018 with her brother.
Xing Yu (Chinese: 星语, studbook number 914) is a female giant panda born on June 30, 2014 at the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding, weighing 146 grams. She and her twin brother Xing Yuan (星愿, 117g) were the first twin pair born at the base in 2014.
Her mother is Ya Xing (娅星) and her father is Yong Yong (勇勇). She has siblings including Xing Mei (星美), Xing Fan (星繁), and Xing Hui (星辉).
Xing Yu was the first cub of the 2014 class to learn to walk — while other cubs were still crawling, she was already strolling. She is described as a “tomboy” (女汉子) with a bold, assertive personality (大大咧咧). Her keepers nicknamed her “Big Sister” (大姐大) and “Class Leader” (班长).
She has a distinctive beauty mark (美人痣) on the right side of her nose, which has become more prominent with age. Her signature behavior is staring intensely (瞪眼) — she often fixes people with a wide-eyed gaze. She also occasionally walks backwards and loves running through the grass.
Despite her tough exterior, she is especially gentle with her brother Xing Yuan.
On June 25, 2015, Xing Yu, her mother Ya Xing, and brother Xing Yuan were transferred to the Dujiangyan Panda Valley for wild training. She spent two years there learning survival skills before returning to the Chengdu Base on July 6, 2017.
On February 7, 2018, Xing Yu and Xing Yuan moved to Quanzhou Haisi Wildlife World (泉州海丝野生动物世界) in Fujian Province. Their panda house — built at a cost of over 20 million RMB — covers 1,200 square meters and features:
Xing Yu and Xing Yuan continue to reside in Quanzhou.
