Zhen Duo (Chinese: 珍多), studbook number 928, is a male giant panda born on August 4, 2014 at the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding. His name incorporates the character “珍” (precious) from his mother’s name Qi Zhen (奇珍, studbook 490). His father is Lin Lin (琳琳, studbook 594), a male at Chengdu Base.
Qi Zhen is herself a daughter of Mei Mei (梅梅, sb412), meaning Zhen Duo traces his lineage back to the same matriarch as the Adventure World panda dynasty — through a different branch of the family tree.
Journey to Yunnan
On November 17, 2016, at 2 years old, Zhen Duo and another sub-adult panda Mao Zhu (毛竹, studbook 586) were transferred together to Yunnan Wildlife Park (also known as Kunming Zoo) — the first sub-adult giant pandas ever housed in Yunnan Province. The zoo built a specially designed habitat for them with simulated forest areas and dedicated bamboo cultivation zones.

Zhen Duo has lived at Kunming Zoo (Yunnan Wildlife Park) since his arrival in 2016, growing from a sub-adult into a mature male. He shares the panda habitat with Mao Zhu and remains one of the most popular attractions at the zoo.
