Located in Xicheng District, Beijing, Beijing Zoo is one of the oldest zoological institutions in China, housing more than 500 terrestrial species and 400 aquatic species including endemic and critically endangered taxa. Its collection includes *Ailuropoda melanoleuca* (giant panda), *Rhinopithecus roxellana* (golden snub-nosed monkey), *Acipenser sinensis* (Chinese sturgeon), *Panthera pardus japonensis* (North China leopard), and *Elaphurus davidianus* (Père David's deer), many of which are listed in Appendix I of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna
