Ji Ni was born and raised at Beijing Zoo and spent her entire life there. As one of the zoo’s long-term residents, she became a familiar presence to generations of visitors. In her later years, Beijing Zoo placed her under a special health management program for elderly pandas starting in 2017, providing one-on-one daily care.
Ji Ni passed away on January 7, 2021 at the age of 27 years and 2 months due to kidney failure leading to heart failure. Beijing Zoo announced her passing and noted her contribution to public education about giant panda conservation.
