He and his twin sister Bao Mei (宝妹) were named by 73,000 public voters. Bao Di (Chinese: 宝弟, meaning “Little Brother Bao”) is a male giant panda born on August 8, 2019 at 13:26 local time at Pairi Daiza in Brugelette, Belgium. He holds the global studbook number 1186.
His parents are Xing Hui (星徽, studbook 745) and Hao Hao (好好, studbook 735). He has an older brother Tian Bao (天宝) (born 2016) and a twin sister Bao Mei (宝妹).
In October 2019, Pairi Daiza launched a public naming contest via social media. Over 73,000 fans voted. On November 14, 2019, the names “Bao Di” (宝弟) and “Bao Mei” (宝妹) were announced — meaning “Little Brother Bao” and “Little Sister Bao,” the younger siblings of Tian Bao (天宝).
Bao Di and Bao Mei won the 2019 Global Panda Award for “Panda Cub of the Year” (Gold Award).
The “Joy of 1000 Days” celebration was held at Pairi Daiza with Chinese Ambassador Cao Zhongming, Governor of Hainaut Province Leclerc, and over 100 guests. The event was co-organized by the Chinese Embassy and Pairi Daiza.
On December 10, 2024, Bao Di departed Pairi Daiza alongside Tian Bao and Bao Mei. After a ~10-hour flight, they arrived at Chengdu Shuangliu Airport on December 11, 2024 aboard Sichuan Airlines flight 3U9812.
On January 26, 2025, Bao Di made his first public appearance in China at the Ya’an Bifengxia Base.
On June 7, 2025, Bao Di and Bao Mei arrived in Wenzhou. After a week-long quarantine, they debuted at Wenzhou Zoo on June 15, 2025 for a five-year educational exchange program. The zoo’s panda house features air conditioning, fresh air systems, and both indoor and outdoor exercise areas.
