Basic Profile
Tian Bao (Chinese: 天宝, meaning “Heavenly Treasure”) is a male giant panda born on June 2, 2016, at Pairi Daiza in Brugelette, Belgium — the first giant panda ever born in Belgium.
His father is Xing Hui (星徽, studbook 745) and his mother is Hao Hao (好好). He has a younger brother Bao Di (宝弟) and a younger sister Bao Mei (宝妹) (born 2019).
Naming
On September 15, 2016, Tian Bao was officially named at a ceremony at Pairi Daiza. He was also granted honorary citizenship of Brugelette.
Life in Belgium
Tian Bao was described as a chubby cub, weighing nearly 30 kg as a youngster — noticeably heavier than同龄 pandas. Pairi Daiza ran a “Panda Baby Diary” on its website documenting his growth.
Due to COVID-19, his return to China was delayed. His keeper adjusted his training, speaking to him in Mandarin and Sichuan dialect.
8th Birthday (June 2, 2024)
Pairi Daiza held a birthday celebration for Tian Bao, with a special birthday feast.
Return to China
On December 10, 2024, Tian Bao departed Pairi Daiza with Bao Di and Bao Mei. They arrived in Chengdu on December 11, 2024. On January 26, 2025, Tian Bao made his public debut in China at the Ya’an Bifengxia Base.
