Bing Bao

Basic Profile

Bing Bao (Chinese: 冰宝), nicknamed “Bing Tuo Tuo” (冰坨坨), is a male giant panda born on August 8, 2021 at the Wolong Shenshuping Base.

His mother is Bing Bing (冰冰) and his twin brother is Bing Zai (冰仔). His older brother is Bing Dun Dun (冰墩墩).

World Wildlife Day Mascot

On March 3, 2022 — the 9th World Wildlife Day — Bing Bao and female cub Qing Bao (青宝) were selected as the official spokes-pandas through an online naming contest.

His name “冰宝” combines:

• “冰” (Bing): From his mother Bing Bing, and referencing the Winter Olympics (冰雪)
• “宝” (Bao): Meaning “treasure,” homophone for “保” (protection)

Together, the name symbolizes wildlife protection and harmony between humans and nature. His elegant, long-limbed physique earned him the title “Supermodel of the Panda World” (熊猫界超模).

3D VR Livestream

On November 5-6, 2022, Bing Bao, his mother Bing Bing, and brother Bing Zai participated in the world’s first 3D panoramic VR panda livestream. The broadcast used virtual reality technology to show the family’s interactions and feeding behavior in immersive detail, attracting over a million viewers.

Current Status

Bing Bao resides at the CCRCGP Wolong Shenshuping Base and is expected to move to the newly opened Mianyang Panda Base.
