Chong Chong

Basic Profile

Chong Chong (Chinese: 重重, adopted name Dao Xiao Bei/道小贝), studbook number 1262, is a male giant panda born on June 23, 2019 at Chongqing Zoo. His mother is Lan Xiang (兰香) and his twin brother is Shuang Shuang (双双).

The Four Treasures

On June 23, 2019, two female pandas at Chongqing Zoo — Lan Xiang and Mang Zai (莽仔) — both gave birth to twins on the same day, a first in the zoo’s 60-year history. The four cubs were named through a global naming contest:

Lan Xiang’s twins:

• Shuang Shuang (双双) — male
• Chong Chong (重重) — male

Mang Zai’s twins:

• Xi Xi (喜喜) — female
• Qing Qing (庆庆) — female

Together they are known as the “Four Treasures” (四宝) or “Four Happy Meatballs” (四喜丸子) . They are famous at Chongqing Zoo for their enrichment activities including “围炉煮茶” (sitting around a stove drinking tea) and “搓麻将” (playing mahjong) — staged interactions that delight visitors.

Adoption

In September 2023, Chong Chong and Shuang Shuang were lifelong adopted by Weilong (卫龙) , a popular snack company, and renamed “Dao Xiao Bei” (道小贝) and “Ba Xiao Bao” (霸小宝) .
