Short version
Kai Kai (凯凯, studbook #690), originally named Wu Jie (武杰), is a male giant panda born September 14, 2007 at CCRCGP. Twin of Wu Jun, he moved to Singapore's River Wonders in 2012 alongside Jia Jia. In 2021, he became the father of Le Le (叻叻) — Singapore's first locally born panda. His stay was extended to 2027.
Kai Kai (Chinese: 凯凯, originally Wu Jie/武杰), studbook number 690, is a male giant panda born on September 14, 2007 at the China Conservation and Research Center for Giant Pandas (CCRCGP). His parents are Wu Gang (武岗) and Ye Ye (晔晔).
His twin brother is Wu Jun (武俊, studbook 689) — the panda who acted in the film “Panda’s Home” and later lived in Tai’an. The two brothers went on very different journeys: one to Singapore, one to movie fame.
On September 9, 2012, Kai Kai (then named Wu Jie) and female panda Jia Jia (嘉嘉, originally Hu Bao/沪宝) arrived at Singapore’s River Wonders as part of a 10-year conservation cooperation marking 20 years of China-Singapore diplomatic relations. He was renamed “Kai Kai” in Singapore.
On August 14, 2021, after seven自然交配 attempts combined with artificial insemination, Kai Kai and Jia Jia’s cub Le Le (叻叻, studbook 1074) was born — Singapore’s first locally born giant panda, weighing approximately 200 grams.
In September 2022, the cooperation agreement was extended to 2027, with plans for continued breeding research. Kai Kai remains at River Wonders, participating in conservation education and research.

nature
Giant pandas evolved for the cool, misty mountains of Sichuan — yet they have thrived in the equatorial heat of Singapore and Malaysia. This article explores the high-tech climate control systems, indoor enclosure design, and dietary adjustments that make tropical panda keeping possible, and what this extreme-environment success reveals about panda physiological resilience.
