Qing Qing

Basic Profile

Qing Qing (Chinese: 庆庆, meaning “Celebration”) is a female giant panda born on June 23, 2019 at Chongqing Zoo. Her mother is Mang Zai (莽仔) and her twin sister is Xi Xi (喜喜). Through Mang Zai, she is the sister of the famous Mang Cancan (莽灿灿).

The Four Happy Meatballs

On June 23, 2019, two female pandas at Chongqing Zoo gave birth to twins on the same day — a first in the zoo’s 60-year history:

• Lan Xiang (兰香): Shuang Shuang (♂) and Chong Chong (♂)
• Mang Zai (莽仔): Xi Xi (♀, elder) and Qing Qing (♀, younger)

Through a global naming contest, the four cubs became 双双、重重、喜喜、庆庆 — together forming “双重喜庆” (Double Happiness Celebration). The public affectionately calls them the “Four Happy Meatballs” (四喜丸子).

At her 100-day naming ceremony, Qing Qing weighed 4,152 grams.

Enrichment Stars

The quartet became internet sensations for their staged enrichment activities:

• “围炉煮茶” (Sitting around a stove drinking tea) — bamboo tables set with cups
• “搓麻将” (Playing mahjong) — arranged around a miniature table

These sessions are scheduled during morning viewing hours (8:30-10:30 AM) and draw large crowds.

Birthday Celebrations

• 5th Birthday (2024): A nine-grid hotpot (九宫格火锅) themed feast — fitting for a Chongqing native, since hotpot is the city’s signature dish
