Xiao Yun is a female giant panda born on 2023-10-20 at Nanjing Zoo. This birth is recorded under studbook number 1384 in the global giant panda breeding registry. Her birth aligns with coordinated captive breeding efforts for the species managed across Chinese zoological institutions. She is the offspring of Wu Gang and Ya Yi, both adult giant pandas housed at Nanjing Zoo. Both of her parents have documented ancestry from wild giant panda populations native to the Min Mountains in Sichuan Province. Currently living at Nanjing Zoo, she participates in the Chinese Association of Zoological Gardens’ giant panda conservation breeding program. Nanjing Zoo is a participating institution in the national effort to maintain genetically diverse captive giant panda populations. As a young captive-born giant panda, Xiao Yun displays typical foraging and climbing behaviors common to the species. She is a popular attraction for domestic and international visitors to Nanjing Zoo, supporting public education about giant panda conservation.
