Yi Yun (Chinese: 怡云, studbook number 980) is a female giant panda born on August 22, 2015 at the Ya’an Bifengxia Base.
Her mother is Fei Fei (妃妃) — a heroic mother who gave birth at 20 years old, making her the oldest panda mother of twins on record at the time. Yi Yun’s twin sibling did not survive.
Her siblings include Le Sheng (乐生), Jing Jing (晶晶), Feng Yi/ Liang Liang (凤仪/靓靓), Ao Yun (奥运), Fei Yun (飞云), Yun Tao (云涛), Bing Qing (冰清), and Qing Cheng (青城).
Yi Yun is recognizable by the distinctive white hair on the ends of her limbs (四肢末端带有白色毛发). She was known at Wolong as a member of the “Gengda Mountain Gang” (耿达山口组), a playful group of young pandas.
She has been described as a lively panda who enjoys bath time, and keepers have been recorded coaxing her with “time to go to sleep” as she lingered in her pool.
She currently resides at the China Conservation and Research Center.
