Short version
Yuan Man (圆满, studbook #1006) is a female giant panda born June 29, 2016 at the Chengdu Research Base. Twin of Yuan Yue, she is known for her explosively fluffy fur — standing on end like she's been electrocuted. Since 2019, she has lived at Xining Panda Pavilion in Qinghai, China's highest-altitude panda facility at 2,200 meters.
Yuan Man (Chinese: 圆满, “Perfect Round”), studbook number 1006, is a female giant panda born on June 29, 2016 at the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding. Her mother is Yuan Yuan (园园) and her twin sister is Yuan Yue (园月).
Yuan Man inherited her mother’s distinctive “exploding fur” (炸毛) — her coat stands on end, giving her a permanently fluffy, slightly disheveled appearance. She looks like she’s been ruffled by static electricity. Combined with her outward-slanting eye corners and flat head, she is one of the most distinctive-looking pandas at the Chengdu Base.
On October 11, 2017, Yuan Man moved to the Dujiangyan Panda Valley. On June 5, 2019, she and another female panda, Qi Guo (奇果), were transferred to Xining Panda Pavilion in Qinghai Province — the largest single panda facility in China, sitting at an altitude of 2,200 meters (7,200 feet).
The Xining facility is China’s highest panda habitat. Fresh bamboo is airlifted from Chengdu to ensure quality. Yuan Man lives alongside three other pandas: Qi Guo, He Xing, and one male.
Her 5th and 8th birthdays at Xining were celebrated with cakes made from bitter bamboo bases decorated with fruits and carrots.
