Hua Zui Ba (Chinese name 花嘴巴, meaning “Flower Mouth”) is a female giant panda born on September 16, 2003, at the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding in Sichuan, China. Her mother is Cheng Cheng (成成). She is the aunt of the famous panda He Hua (和花), as her mother Cheng Cheng is the sister of He Hua’s mother Cheng Gong (成功).
Early Years and Move to Spain
Hua Zui Ba spent her early years at the Chengdu Research Base. On June 29, 2007, the China-Spain Giant Panda Conservation and Research Cooperation Program was officially launched. As part of this program, Hua Zui Ba and male panda Bing Xing were selected to travel to Spain.
On September 8, 2007, the pair arrived at Madrid Zoo Aquarium in Spain, beginning their long-term residence.
Breeding Success in Madrid
Hua Zui Ba became a highly successful breeding female in Spain, producing six cubs:
In February 2018, China and Spain renewed the cooperation agreement, allowing the pandas to remain in Madrid until 2023.
Return to China
On February 22, 2024, a farewell ceremony was held at Madrid Zoo for Hua Zui Ba’s family. On February 29, 2024, she departed Spain with Bing Xing and their three youngest cubs. They arrived safely in Chengdu, Sichuan on March 1, 2024.
