Her mother is Guo Guo (帼帼), who was rescued from a landslide caused by the Wenchuan earthquake. Ping Ping and her twin brother An An (安安) were the first captive twin pandas born globally after the 2008 earthquake — a symbol of survival and hope. Their names were chosen through a public online vote, and they were adopted by Chinese actor Huang Xiaoming.
