Qi Bao (Chinese: 奇宝, adopted name Xiong Xiao Kai/熊晓开), is a male giant panda born on September 13, 2021 at Chongqing Zoo. His mother is Hao Qi (好奇, studbook 896) — the female panda named by Nobel Prize-winning physicist Samuel C.C. Ting. His father is Lu Lin (芦林), and his twin sister is Qi Zhen (奇珍).

Naming and Adoption

On December 21, 2021, at their 100-day celebration, the twins were officially named “Qi Zhen” and “Qi Bao.”

On November 1, 2022, Kaiyu Group adopted both twins through a donation-based sponsorship. Qi Bao was renamed “Xiong Xiao Kai” (熊晓开) and his sister “Mao Xiao Yu” (猫晓域) — the names symbolizing pioneering spirit.
