Qi Zhen (Chinese: 奇珍, adopted name Mao Xiao Yu/猫晓域) is a female giant panda born on September 13, 2021 at Chongqing Zoo.
Her mother is Hao Qi (好奇, studbook 896) — the female panda named by Nobel Prize-winning physicist Samuel C.C. Ting. Her father is Lu Lin (芦林). Her twin brother is Qi Bao (奇宝/Xiong Xiao Kai), and she has a younger sister Qi Ying (奇颖).
Naming and Adoption
On December 21, 2021, at their 100-day celebration, the twins were officially named “Qi Zhen” and “Qi Bao.”
On November 1, 2022, Kaiyu Group (开域集团) lifelong adopted both twins. Qi Zhen was renamed “Mao Xiao Yu” (猫晓域), symbolizing a pioneering spirit.
2024 Leg Injury
On February 9, 2024, Qi Zhen sustained a leg injury. Veterinary experts conducted a thorough examination and confirmed no fractures and no life-threatening condition. Further diagnostic treatment was scheduled for February 20, 2024. She was reported to be recovering well under professional care.
