Xin Xing (Chinese: 新兴, “New Rise”), studbook number 329, was a male giant panda born in the wild of Baoxing County, Sichuan Province in approximately September 1986. He was rescued in the spring of 1987 from Dapingshan in Baoxing’s Xinxing Township — the location that inspired his name.
He was transferred to the Wolong Hetaoping Base in May 1988.
On September 19, 1990, Xin Xing traveled to Singapore Zoo — one of the earliest overseas panda loans, at a time when international panda exchanges were still rare. He spent approximately six months in Singapore before returning to China.
On August 23, 2007, Xin Xing was transferred to Yunnan Wildlife Park, where he spent two years. He returned to the Ya’an Bifengxia Base on September 17, 2009, but his health was already declining.
