Yu Bao (渝宝, studbook #1011) is a male giant panda born July 11, 2016 at Chongqing Zoo. Son of Lan Xiang and twin of Yu Bei, he was Chongqing Zoo's first successfully bred twin pair. In 2025, he moved to Wuxi Zoo, where his pondside enclosure features Jiangnan garden architecture.

Basic Profile

Yu Bao (Chinese: 渝宝), studbook number 1011, is a male giant panda born on July 11, 2016 at Chongqing Zoo. His mother is Lan Xiang (兰香) and his twin sister is Yu Bei (渝贝) .

Through his mother Lan Xiang, his half-siblings include Shuang Shuang (双双) and Chong Chong (重重) — the “Four Treasures” twins born in 2019.

He was named through an online public contest in March 2017.

Life Journey

Yu Bao lived at Chongqing Zoo for his first nine years. On April 18, 2025, he was transferred to Wuxi Zoo for a five-year科普展示合作. After 7 days of quarantine, he made his public debut on April 25, 2025.

His new enclosure at Wuxi features:

An outdoor area with waterfall, rockery, pool, and climbing structures
An indoor area with Jiangnan garden-style design, air conditioning, and fresh air system
Daily bamboo deliveries from Anji and Yixing
An upgraded 1,000-square-meter outdoor area added in September 2025 with a glass viewing wall

Yu Bao weighs 132 kg and is described as gentle, adaptable, and an enthusiastic bamboo eater.
