Short version
Lin Bing (林冰, studbook #740) is a female giant panda born May 27, 2009 at Chiang Mai Zoo — the first giant panda born in Thailand. Daughter of Chuang Chuang and Lin Hui, her birth sparked a national frenzy: 22 million Thais participated in naming, and a TV channel broadcast her 24/7. Lin Bing (Chinese: 林冰, studbook number 740) is a female giant panda born on May 27, 2009 at Chiang Mai Zoo in Thailand — the first giant panda ever born in Thailand and all of Southeast Asia.
Her father is Chuang Chuang (创创, studbook 510) and her mother is Lin Hui (林惠, studbook 523), both gifted to Thailand in 2003 as part of a Sino-Thai conservation partnership.
From the moment of her birth, Lin Bing became a cultural phenomenon:
Originally scheduled to return in 2011, her stay was extended when Thai authorities demonstrated excellent care. On September 28, 2013, she returned to China — hundreds of fans chartered a plane to accompany her on the flight.
Lin Bing gave birth to 7 cubs in 5 years:
| Year | Cubs | Details |
|---|---|---|
| 2015 | Wen Hui (文惠, female twins) | First birth, already twins |
| 2017 | Hai Hai (海海) & Lao Lao (捞捞) | First cubs at rebuilt Shenshuping |
| 2019 | An An (安安, #1183) | Later gifted to Hong Kong |
| 2020 | Wu Lin (武林) & Du Du (嘟嘟) | Twin males |
Described as lively and mischievous, she takes after her father Chuang Chuang. She reportedly now responds to Sichuan dialect.
