Short version

Shuang Xin (双欣, sb818) is a female born 2011-08-09 at Chengdu Base, twin sister of Shuang Xi (双喜). Daughter of Da Shuang (大双) and granddaughter of the matriarch Qing Qing. Part of the famous "爱疯六" (iPhones 6) group, she moved to Xining Wildlife Park in 2019 as one of the first pandas to live on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau.

Basic Profile

Shuang Xin (Chinese: 双欣, studbook number 818) is a female giant panda born on August 9, 2011 at the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding. Her twin sister is Shuang Xi (双喜, studbook 819), and together they were the second litter of their mother Da Shuang (大双, studbook 453).

Her mother Da Shuang is a prolific female from the Qing Qing (庆庆) lineage, one of the most important matriarchal lines at the Chengdu Base.

The “iPhones 6” Group

In 2013-2014, Shuang Xin, together with her sister Shuang Xi, He Qi, He Mei, Er Qiao, and Ai Li, formed the famous “爱疯六” (iPhones 6) group at the Chengdu Base’s juvenile enclosure. The six cubs — born around the same period — were a major attraction, drawing large crowds and media coverage.

Life Journey

  • 2011-08-09: Born at Chengdu Base, twin of Shuang Xi
  • 2013-2014: Lived in the juvenile enclosure as part of the “iPhones 6” group
  • 2014-04-24: Loaned to Shanghai Zoo alongside her sister Shuang Xi for exhibition
  • 2016-04-15: Returned to Chengdu Base
  • 2019-06-03: Transferred to Xining Panda House at Xining Wildlife Park in Qinghai Province, becoming one of the first giant pandas to live on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau

Life on the Plateau

Shuang Xin adapted exceptionally well to the high-altitude environment of Xining (2,200m elevation). Alongside her companions He Xing (和兴), Qi Guo (奇果), and Yuan Man (圆满), she enjoys a climate that is naturally cooler than Chengdu’s summers, with keepers providing artificial humidity and UV protection as needed.

Her birthday is celebrated annually at the Xining Panda House, often alongside He Xing whose birthday falls nearby. The Xining facility is the largest single panda house in Northwest China.
